straight forward explanation and examples of card counting

How to count out a hand is set forth in Chapter One. This is the framework for the entire book. Examples of card counting are given to determine by the declarer of the distribution in the opponents hands of the outstanding cards of each suit thereby isolating the cetain or probable location of a missing key card. Thereafter, the author covers competive bidding situations and where the defense does not bid. Also, the author covers card counting in defending a contract. Although many books on card counting followed the publication of The Art of Card Reading of Bridge, this is the best organized and most understandable. In my opinion, if you are going to read one book on card counting this is it.

About the Author
David A. Madsen is an emeritus faculty member in drafting technology and the Autodesk Premier Training Center at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Oregon, where he also served as an instructor and department chairperson for nearly 30 years. In addition to his community college experience, David served as a drafting technology instructor at Centennial High School in Gresham, Oregon. He is a former member of the American Design and Drafting Association (ADDA) Board of Directors and was honored by the ADDA with Director Emeritus status at the annual conference in 2005. David is an Autodesk Authorized Author and has extensive experience in mechanical drafting, architectural design and drafting, and building construction. He holds a master of education degree in vocational administration and a bachelor of science degree in industrial education. He is the author of ENGINEERING DRAWING AND DESIGN, GEOMETRIC DIMENSIONING AND TOLERANCING, and PRINT READING FOR ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY, and coauthor of ARCHITECTURAL AUTOCAD; ARCHITECTURAL DESKTOP AND ITS APPLICATIONS; ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING AND DESIGN; ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING USING AUTOCAD; AUTOCAD AND ITS APPLICATIONS: BASICS, ADVANCED, AND COMPREHENSIVE; AUTOCAD ARCHITECTURE AND ITS APPLICATIONS; AUTOCAD ESSENTIALS; CIVIL DRAFTING TECHNOLOGY; and PRINT READING FOR ARCHITECTURE AND CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY.

Purchased this book for a class. I found it to be one of the better textbooks. The book was to the point, explaining everything clearly. The chapters continue to reintroduce subjects you learn at the very beginning. Building upon each subject at a steady pace.

Good book with a great approach to GDnT

Good book with a great approach to GDnT. I feel there should be a blueprint to the questions and tests for self study purpose.
Some more intricate examples along the way could really show how GDnT works on more complex pieces of hardware.
In a class room the instructor or professor will always be there to answer ones questions. Studying alone it is more difficult to punch through a problem and get a clear understanding sometimes.

Not quite as stated

Purchased this book as an update from the 1994 version of the standard to conduct my classes. According to the details of this book here it states there is an instructor's resource included. Unless I'm missing something, there is nothing or the sort. Looks like I now will have to spend extra time that I just don't have, to go thru the book and mark the answers manually, thanks.

useful as a guide

Just got this last week to prep for the exam. It is by no means detailed enough as a starting book but good for the later stages of your exam review. It can be superficial in places but makes up for that with some of the best flow charts and tables available.

I found myself using primary resources like Harrison's to first review a topic and then would go to this book to help me organize the topic in a way that would be practical for the exam. If you are a visual learning, then the presentation of the material is perfect.

Overall, somewhat superficial but practical presentation of the exam material.

Essentials of Canadian Medical Licensing Exam

This book is a real disappointment. I was quite excited when I heard about it, however it turns out to be incomplete, an obvious "rush" job with what seems like "cut and paste" from the MCC website and/or other materials. Also, for a book of this sort, it seem insufficiently vetted by senior clinicians and rather poorly organized (e.g. as compared to USMLE prep books of a similar ilk). I do not recommend this book. A real shame.

An important book

These photographs are shockingly beautiful, largely because ofthe deceptive simplicity of style.
[Some] have complained that the photographs in this book are not "artistic" enough. As I see it, the importance and beauty of this book is its willingness to portray women's genitals in an honest, non-sexualized way. Art or abstraction is entirely opposite to the purpose of portraying the reality of women's bodies, as free as possible from the typical conceptions of Western culture (think of how naked women are usually shown in canonical art, or, better yet, pornography). The remark one reader made that many of the vulvas depicted would scare male readers is quite telling. They might scare a lot of readers, and the confrontation and analysis of that fear is what makes this book immensely important rather than just visually beautiful.

such a useful teaching tool

I used Femalia in a variety of workshops I present for women, many of whom previously didn't even have words for their sexual parts beyond "down there."

And I've found that looking at and talking about these photos often enables women to talk about sexual issues, trauma, abuse or sexual joy, often feeling safe to do so for the first time in their lives.

Now that I've begun reading about the horrible new plastic surgery they call "labial beautification," I wish more women had access to a book like Femalia to see how diverse and wonderful women's bodies are.

It's intriguing to me that many of the reader reviews posted here by by men who complain that the photos didn't do a thing for them. I don't think these were intended to be sexual turn-ons. And those who've complained that these photos are merely gynecological are missing the point. Unlike men, women can't easily see their own sexual parts. It's important and helpful that these show--in a very realsitic fashion--just how we are made.

Bottom line--if you'll forgive the pun--is that I find Femalia to be an incredibly empowering book for the women who've seen it and one of the best teaching tools available as far as female sexuality is concerned.

Femalia is a wonderful book illustrating the many variations of vulva. If any girl or woman thinks her vulva is deformed, ugly, etc. this book should help them understand that each vulva is unique and beautiful. The photography was excellent.

My story

When I did not expect it, God brought this book to my attention. Having embraced atheism for my entire adult life, I eagerly first turned to the chapter addressing atheism. While reading, sitting at my kitchen table, God used this book to open my mind to the reality of his presence. When I at last realized He was real, I can only describe my reaction as feeling like somehow I'd come home after a long, weary absence. I have now spent nearly 8 years in His presence, and it keeps getting better and better!

Eye opening and thought provoking!

Like so many other 20-somethings that live in America, I grew up in a quasi-religious home with vague Christian undertones. I quickly became jaded about religion and "truth" as I grew older in light of all the competing world-views and religious hypocrites. Atheism seemed to be the logical conclusion. A friend gave this book to me a number of years ago and asked me to read it. I was skeptical. But I have to say that this book really changed my mind. It's straight forward, honest, and accurate. McCallum isn't pulling any punches, and he doesn't need to, because the evidence is valid and reasonable. I'm happy to say that this book played a part in meeting the true God for myself. It isn't exhaustive, but it's a great start. It's the go-to book that I give to other people that are interested in knowing why we should believe anything spiritual and on what basis should we do so.

"Discovering God" is a great book for the seeker learning more about the evidence for God and the Christian faith, and the Christian believer who is looking for solid reason for their faith. This is the perfect book to give a friend who is seeking for answers about God and Christianity. It's a quick read, and can be read front to back in a few hours. I have a few copies on hand ready to give to people who show interest in learning more about God. This book has also been a great reference to the big questions, like: Biblical validity, prophecy, problem of evil, other religions and many more. I own the Kindle copy of this book on my iPod touch, and bust it out whenever I have a thought about a big question. A must have!
