don't.

Purchased on accident, but I read it anyway because I am working toward making my own soaps. The ingredients are obscure and the recipes worthless. I received better information from online wellness/DIY sites for free. Cannot suggest this book. Not happy I bought it.

This was an easy to read book with a well thought out and logical layout. I appreciated the simple explanations and wonderful tips and ideas.
One question I didn't see an answer to, though I might have missed it. What does the term "peeling" soap mean?

Just what I was looking for

This book gives excellent directions for melt and pour soap. Sometimes soap making books skip this introductory bit. My teenage son was wanting to start making soap and I didn't want to get into some lengthy and complicated process of he was only going to want to do it once. This book is exactly what we were looking for. We had ordered melt and pour soap supplies online, but they didn't come with instructions.

If you can't explain it clearly, you have to go back to the drawing board

I agree with CF. It seems Ms. Keyton decided to fire her editor. Or maybe, her editor quit her job and ran off upon receiving this book.

In addition to many grammatical errors, topics are jumbled between sections and chapters. The author will often talk about a subject, move on to something else, and then say "Oh wait! I just had a thought about that section you were reading 5 minutes ago."

Simple concepts are afforded exhaustive explanations and examples, while complex, jargon-riddled topics are glossed over without enough explanation.

The text is also very dry, and often uses the passive voice. There are no images to compliment the boring passages, and diagrams are few and far between.

That brings me to my next point. This book is offered in a "kindle edition" as a "replica." which means that you can buy a digital copy, but you can't read it on your Kindle device. Upon chatting with Amazon, they said it is up to the author/publisher to say whether a textbook can be adapted to the Kindle devices. "Replica" texts are often very specifically formatted with pictures, images, graphs, and sometimes interactive content. When I heard this I expected an exciting book, but this book is far from exciting, and doesn't even have complex formatting. The author/publisher just want to be able to charge more for their hardcover.

Needs Some Proofreading

This book is a more tedious read than it needs to be because of a plethora of grammatical errors. The ill-placed comma on page 152, for example ("Finally, the communication structure or network, developed in the group impacts information flows among group members."), is the kind of thing that makes you stop and re-read the sentence a few times to make sure you extracted the correct meaning. There seem to be a lot of similar mistakes. I was required to buy this text for a course I was required to take. Since I wasn't looking forward to the course, my attention span and patience was short enough to begin with; this book is not helping.

mostly good, and glad that I could get it quick ...

I bought this because it was the only hymnal available on prime. I was making gifts for grandmothers. I tried to find songs that we all knew. I was familiar with maybe 1/3 of them (I grew up Assemblies of God, Penticostal), and I've been raised in church. It doesn't have some of the old hymns from my childhood, but it has most of them. So, mostly good, and glad that I could get it quick from Prime!

The celebration hymnal is a great resource for someone involved in the music ministry at church. The hymnal is full of the most popular Christain songs, both traditional and contempory. It is fully equipped with arrangements, intros, choral endings and more, making it perfect for choirs and special numbers. It is easy to make a song sound professional - without the work because the format makes it easy to sing. It is a classic that I'll use for years to come.

An excellent introduction.

I have researched and used ornament from various cultures and time periods to incorporate it into my woodblock prints.This book is truly informative. It is a clear introduction on the use and history of ornament and an good explanation of why it partially disappeared in the 20th century (or mutated into abstraction). it also has many small but good color reproductions to illustrate some key points.
Also, I am trying to get in touch with Mr. Trilling, if anybody knows his e-mail or address. Thank you.

She is constantly picking up new hobbies and interests. She knits socks, grows mini cucumbers in her garden, and played the violin for 5 years. She has a pug dog with a nervous temperament and speaks a little Spanish. She's eclectic.

An Excellent Addition to this Continuing Story

After reading Fae Hunter (Soulstealer Trilogy #1) and then the novella Mane Attraction (A Soulstealer Novella (Book #1.5)) (which should NOT be skipped) this book was a "must-buy" since the story was enjoyable, passionate and at times a bit tragic but the heroine Valora just keep on ticking. This story was as enthralling and full of twists and turns as the others but it takes a bit darker turn and much to my dismay the author has once again inserted Aric back into the fray and then to lessen my enjoyment even more added a lot of angst and even a Ménage à trois which did nothing for my enjoyment of this book, but the story is so addicting I only dropped my rating about half a star. Obviously, those things won't bother other readers so adjust as you see fit. I should mention that the events at the end of book 1 are not totally as they seemed :) The series has about a 4.5/5 rating overall, this book while adding tons to the story also added things I could have done without but I will still be waiting eagerly for the final book.

Valuable resource for learning about and using western medicine plants

I heard one of the co-authors talking about this book in a radio show. He is a pharmacologist or something along those lines. The other co-author has passed away, she was a Chumash healer. I really like this book because it outlines the plants in my part of the world and what they can be used for. It's written in a friendly, practical way and when a traditional use for a plant does not seem like a good idea the book says so. There are also several good recipes for healing potions included in some of the plant descriptions. This book seems like a valuable information resource to me; in some ways it's more accessible than the Peterson series' Western Medicinal Plants and Herbs.

I am personally acquainted with the author, Cecilia Garcia. She is a valued figure in the Chumash tribe. She is a true healer and is a great source of tribal history. She lives and breathes her culture and has helped so many. This publication says so much about the true resource that she is! Well done!

great book few typos

This book is excellent information for a person looking for natural herb uses of plants that grow naturally in California. These remedies are full with historical uses and chemical composition of each plant that can be compared with modern prescription medicine types and possibly give even more insight into future cures of ailments using these natural plants.
